SUPPORTING YOURSELF

KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON: MANAGING PANIC

Taking the power out of panic

Classic Symptons of panic can include

racing heart or palpitations      feeling that oneself or the world around is 'unreal

numbness or tingling               fear that you are having a health emergency

feeling dizzy or faint                   nausea

shaking or trembling                sweating or chills

fear of losing control                 shortness or breath

chest pain                                   a sensation of choking

Symptoms can vary in intensity and from person to person

Panic attacks, characterised by a rapid, intense peak in anxiety, are a common anxiety response, with around 1 in 10 people having at least one attack during their lifetime. Panic attacks are the body's alarm system in action - great in situations of real physical danger but not so useful in a false alarm.  In essence, panic is like a fire bell ringing when there is no fire.

If you are concerned about panic attacks, come along and learn nore about what panic is and what you can do to reclaim your life - we look forward to seeing you there.
